GEAR sponsored activities and events

The events are open to all.  GEAR hopes to increase education and awareness about gifted issues and to provide enrichment opportunities for our students. In addition, we strive to provide opportunities for both parents and students to interact socially with other local families as we work through our educational continuum.  Lastly, when advocacy is needed at the local, state or national level regarding gifted issues, we hope to be an informative and guiding source.

Coffee and Conversation

Approximately once a month we sponsor an informational speaker who would be of interest for parents of gifted children.  Frequently, but not always, we meet on Wednesday or Friday mornings at UC Wing- Blue Ash Elementary.  Always coffee, always conversation.

Family Events

Sometimes it is fun to all come together for an event!  Last year we hosted a game day in mid winter.  It was such a success we decided to plan more of these kind of events. It is nice to cross generations and get out of our boxes.  Big kids teach little kids, little kids meet little kids from other schools.  Moms and Dads chat.  It's fun!

First Lego League

Sycamore GEAR is helping the Sycamore school district create FIRST Lego League teams at all the elementary schools (for fourth graders) and at the intermediate school.

Group Email List

Join GEAR to be a part of the email list. The email list will keep you informed about all our upcoming activities, gifted advocacy information, and allows an avenue for you to interact with other members when you have a question or comment about gifted education in our community. We generally average fewer than 2 emails per week.

Book Worms and Sycamore Society

We sponsor two Book Clubs:  Book Worms for, PK-grade 2, and Sycamore Society, for grades 3-6.  Each group meets every other month to discuss a previously announced book.  Then they complete an activity that brings the book to life.  Past activities have included rock climbing, ice cream social, a haunted village, and a hike in the woods.

Annual HS Forum

Just about the time JH students start looking forward to HS we roll out the forum.  Select Sycamore seniors connect with junior high students and families to share their experience and answer questions about high school life and course planning.  Every year is different and every year yields tons of information!

Got a new idea???

Most of our offerings came about because of a member passion or a desire to fulfill a passion of a child.  If you have an idea of activity or event that GEAR should put together, let us know.  Maybe we can add it into the schedule!
