Dear Sycamore Society,
We are excited to announce are first book club of the year for 3rd - 6th graders! We will be reading Singing Hands by Delia Ray. This book features 12 year old Gussie Davis, one of three hearing daughters of deaf parents, who is expected to be well behaved at the deaf church her father pastors.
We will meet at St. Rita's School for the Deaf on October 15 from 10-11:30 AM to talk a little about the book, learn more about Deaf culture and American Sign Language, and see how Deaf children learn at St. Rita's. We will plan on being at St. Rita's for about 90 minutes, but due to the nature of the program, it may run longer or shorter.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP for this event. Let us know if you are able to stay through the program and help carpool kids in case it runs short. I have a van, and I'll have room for 4 kids in my car.
Feel free to forward this to kids you know in 3rd-6th grades who like to read, and if your child has aged out, we'll be glad to remove you from our list.
Hope to see you soon!
Elissa and Anna (The Sycamore Society Organizers)
